Every now and then you come across a video that pulls you in, holds you in and keeps you in – purely off the visual alone. That is exactly what happens on the new video “Pretty Girl Ugly Issues (PGUI)” from Duane Cali which is directed by Gerson Repreza. With the help of fashion designer Brandon James – Duane’s wardrobe in the video (specifically the crazy jacket collection) is top-notch and starts the process to pull you in. But then once you start to get over what you are watching and start to really listen to what you are hearing you instantly realize Duane Cali is a gem. “PGUI” the single is a serenade complimenting the women with sour spirits showing how pretty they could be (or are) when softening up. “PGUI” the video is a lovestruck man getting secretly terrorized by his significant other. Each of those messages adding to the overall quality of the song. Where the LA singer is flexing his vocal talents floating in between the hip hop, jazz and soul genres on his new record, it isn’t hard to see why audiences are calling it New Age Soul Music.
